About Us
The club was formed way back in 1941 by a group known then as The junior Mountaineering Club of Yorkshire (JYMC). It was subsequently changed to the Yorkshire Mountaineering Club in 1952.
Membership of the club is open to anyone with an active interest in the outdoors. Members’ interests include mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, skiing, running, walking and cycling.
The club meets on most weekends/Sundays for walking or climbing and midweek at local outcrops and climbing walls. Various social events and weekend meets are arranged throughout the year.
Quality rock climbing guide books for Yorkshire Gritstone and Limestone have been published by the club for many years. Click here to see our guide books.
The club owns property in Coppermines Valley above Coniston in the Lake District, which is available to hire to members and non-member groups between 6 and 20 people. Click here for more information about The Hut.

By affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) all members are covered for third party insurance and can also enjoy other benefits of BMC membership.
