YMC Photography Competition

The Competition

The competition is held annually in November and is open to entry by any member of the club.

Sections

  • Main Section Members are asked to submit 3 photographs of mountaineering interest, taken (processed) during the 13 months prior to the competition. Photographs will be given points out of 20 by an independent judge and prizes awarded for:
    The LW Smith Trophy.
    Best Overall entry across the three photographs.
    The Dave Stott Trophy.
    Single Best Mountain Landscape.
    The Golden Peg Award.
    Single Best Climbing shot taken by someone participating in a climb.
  • Humour Section The most humorous shot taken during the year. Again, this will be an additional category, separate from the Main Competition. Members may submit a single photo to be judged. It is not necessary to have entered the Main Competition to take part in this section.
  • Print Competition The subject must be of mountaineering, landscape, climbing, or any other activity of the YMC. Again, it is not necessary to have entered the main competition to take part in this section.
  • Junior Competition The subject must be of mountaineering, landscape, climbing, or any other activity of the YMC taken by a Member's child. Again, it is not necessary to have entered the main competition to take part in this section.

Entry

Photographs for the Main and Humour sections may be in either digital or 35mm transparancy format. Entries for the Print Section must be 10” x 8”.

Digital. All photographs must reach the Competition Coordinator by the closing date on a single CD, marked with the:

  • Photographer's Name
  • Photographs' Title(s)
  • Section (Main or Humour)

Slides. All photographs must reach the Competition Coordinator by the closing date and be marked with the:

  • Photographer's Name
  • Photograph's Title
  • Section (Main or Humour)

Prints. Prints may be entered in advance or on the night of the competitioon. Each should be marked on the back with the:

  • Photographer’s Name
  • Print's Title

Note: Computer enhanced photos are not acceptable.

The closing date for entries to the Main and Hunour sections will be published in the August issue of the YMC Newsletter.
