YMC Hut Information
Access
The YMC cottages are situated in the Coppermines valley close to the Coppermines Youth Hostel and the Barrow Mountaineering Club's Hut. Access is from the village of Coniston via a Tarmac road between the Black Bull Pub and The Co-operative supermarket. The track becomes steep and unsurfaced after a while. Look out for the narrow wooden bridge on the right after the track levels out. The hut is in a row of cottages on the right above the wooden bridge. Please refer to the map for details.
Parking
200 yards past the wooden foot bridge on the left is an area suitable for parking (see the map). It is also possible to park along the wider parts of the track, but please keep the narrow parts of the track clear. In particular the track 100m either side of the foot bridge must be kept clear. The track is used by visitors to the Youth Hostel and the mines further up the valley, as well as by heavy quarry vehicles carrying stone down the valley.
