Formation

The Club was formed in 1941 as recalled in an article by C.White and E.A.Shepherd.

Chronology

The YMC began life in 1941 as the Junior Mountaineering Club of Yorkshire (JMCY). In 1952 the name was changed to the YMC and the renowned rock climber A R Dolphin elected as President.

Properties

Before purchase of the present Club Hut above Coniston in the Lake District, the Club had rented two properties. One was near to the Cow and Calf Rocks above Ilkley, the other near Keswick in the Lake District.

Guidebooks

The YMC has been producing guidebooks since 1965.

Newsletters

The YMC publishes a bi-monthly newsletter for its members containing news and articles.

Journals

Journals have been published by the YMC from time to time.

Testimonials

The Membership of the YMC have contributed in various ways to the climbing world. The Club has included a number of well known personalities from the mountaineering world. Others have written about the Club's Guidebooks
